La gestion de l’eau est dans une phase de révolution sans précédent. Un corpus de connaissances
s’organise actuellement en empruntant à des disciplines diverses. A la fois ingéniérie technique,
économique, financière, sociale et culturelle, c’est à la naissance d’une nouvelle science que nous
assistons. La vocation première de cette nouvelle science relève de l’écologie humaine. L’objectif est de mieux comprendre les interactions entre les humains et leur environnement, afin d’améliorer leur bien-être et leur manière de gérer et d’utiliser les ressources naturelles de la planète. Sa forte dimension culturelle l’expose à des polémiques de plus en plus nombreuses et de plus en plus vivantes, aussi bien sur les scènes locales (celles des collectivités et des communautés d’habitants qu’elles représentent) que sur la scène internationale (celle des gouvernements et des grandes organisations publiques, privées ou non gouvernementales).
